Afternoon Sleepy Feeling Explained

Does your energy plummet in the afternoon?

Your blood sugar may be low, your fuel may be inadequate, or you could be in major need of proper zzz's.

Keeping your body properly fueled is the key to health.
Blood sugar affects everything, from your mood to your hormones to your weight to the strength of your immune system.. everything is connected and can be traced back to how often your body is receiving appropriate amount of fuel to keep it functioning at its optimum.

Stay prepared- Prep your meals, stock up on healthy snacks, carry a water canister or set a timer if you need a reminder to eat on time. Never skip meals and eat a bite or two every 2-3 hours. This keeps a steady flow of fuel in your system which keeps a steady flow of glucose to your brain, which requires 30% of the energy required to run your body. (that's a lot!)

Adequate sleep is also important to cruising through your day. If you aren't well rested, no amount of organic superfoods or coffee will revive you - your body simply needs time to replenish, heal, shut down and rejuvenate like only it knows how. A quality 6-8 hours a night is ideal, but WHEN this quality times happens is the key. Get to bed by 10pm and you will feel refreshed the next day, no matter how many hours you actually slept. It's an earth's energy thing.

Stay hydrated. Your cells communicate with flowing electrical impulses and this only happens quickly when they are dewy and hydrated. Drink plenty of water especially before the sun goes down and opt for adding goodies like chia seeds to make your water extra hydrating and fun.

And lastly, breathe. Your body needs oxygen and so does your brain. Did you know we yawn to increase the amount of oxygen coming into our body? This happens when we're tired, so this explanation makes sense. If you're feeling run down, take a moment for a few deep breaths. I have a tutorial on how to breathe here.
